 Short biography
French conductor Olivier Robe was initially educated as a cellist ; in his home town Caen, then in Paris and in Germany at the Folkwang Universität der Künste, in Essen. Subsequently he decided to studyorchestral conducting in Finland with the legendary professor/teacher Jorma Panula. Recently OlivierRobe made his successful debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Thüringen-Gotha and the
Göttingen Symphony Orchestra.
For several years, Olivier Robe has been regularly invited to conduct the Royal Philharmonic Orchestraof Liège (Belgium), the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders (also known as Antwerp Symphony Orchestra) and at the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, one of the oldest chamber orchestras of Germany. Besides that, he has committed himself to coach and support actively the development of the new Antwerp Youth Orchestra, which he conduct regularly.
Olivier Robe’s career was built through several European orchestras and Asian orchestra including amongst others: the Vaasa Symphony Orchestra, the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, the Pori Sinfonietta (Finland), the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Kammerorchester Berlin, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra Warsaw and the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
Meanwhile he can look back on particular partnerships with three main Romanian orchestras: the Bucharest Radio Orchestra, and both the Philharmonic Orchestras of Moldavia and Bacau.
Robe’s repertoire embraces several styles. He feels equally at home in the baroque era as in the repertoiresup to the XXth century. Belgium’s renowned conductor Philippe Herreweghe asked Olivier Robe at multiple occasions to assist him at the so called “Orchestre des Champs-Elysées”, amongst others, within the framework of a CD-recording for the label Harmonia Mundi. This cooperation has enabled him to approach classical and romantic repertoire both in a historically informed, as in a modern way.
